At HWSTS we are committed to environmental stewardship and corporate citizenship.
We believe that ongoing incremental carbon footprint reduction initiatives within
our contracted fleet resources add up to significant changes over time.
As part of our continuous improvement focus on our transportation routing plans,
HWSTS staff utilize modern computerized routing software tools in the creation of
school purpose vehicle routes. These tools support staff in maximizing fleet resources,
minimizing kms traveled and maintaining service levels. We also leverage existing
public transit service in Hamilton as part of a strategy that is fiscally responsible,
community focused and serves to reduce the number of required vehicles on the road.
These balanced approaches not only support our stakeholders with quality service,
they also reduce the emissions from our contracted school purpose vehicle fleet.
In fact, since 2009 HWSTS has reduced our full size school bus fleet by nearly 40
vehicles while still maintaining a high level of service for students across the
district.
