HWSTS is a service organization. Our efforts are positioned to implement the policies and
directives of our Member Boards with a focus on safety, continuous improvement, efficiency and
    effectiveness.
Responsibility for getting to and from school rests primarily with the student and parents or
guardians. The Education Act states that a board may provide transportation for pupils enrolled in
schools operated by the Board. Transportation to and from school provided to students is a privilege
and not a right. The HWSTS Member Boards' Transportation Policies set out the terms and conditions
under which the Boards may provide transportation.
We utilize a wide array of service modes, planning strategies and vehicle configurations that
include accessible alternatives to support the daily transportation of eligible students. Eligibility
for service is determined by the approved criteria of the respective Board; HWSTS is responsible to
create, administer and manage the annual home-to-school routing solution for all students in accordance
with Board direction. HWSTS utilizes a modern GIS-based routing and scheduling software tool to calculate
distances, maintain student data integrity and plan transportation solutions.
The service needs of our riders cover a broad spectrum and HWSTS staff are dedicated to not losing
sight of "the details" in service provision. Below you will find a number of unique service categories
and research tools that provide additional information that we encourage you to explore. If you have
any questions about HWSTS service, do not hesitate to contact our offices.
